Finding order

So, let me just sweep some dust out of the corners.

The last few months have been stressful, at least. I got laid off in April and after a few months of uncertainty and part time jobs I start a good full time job in the morning. I started Weight Watchers again this weekend, though I didn’t eat well, I at least tracked it.

I always do better with structure. It’s the same reason I suck at online classes. I need a classroom setting. I know how to eat, but I like the structure of Weight Watchers. This job not only pays well, but it’s real full time job with a regular schedule. Plus it removes some of the eating out temptations since I pretty much have to bring a lunch if I want to eat. The first couple weeks are training, then I’ll get my actual schedule. I figure I’ll figure out where the gym fits in once I get out of training. Maybe I’ll see how much a trainer costs.

So I stocked up on healthy stuff for lunches. I’m starting back again at 180, which means, hey, at least I didn’t gain it all back. I know I’ve got the support and the tools I need. Just have to follow the path.

The Situation

So, I pretty much haven’t been posting the last couple months. So, here’s what’s been going on:

When I first started my job, I loved it. I loved what I did, and I was motivated to at least keep up with the Couch to 5k and my diet was okay. Well then they changed my job in February and everything went downhill. Suddenly I had no time for anything and found myself eating way more fast food. Then over the last few weeks they started cutting hours and layoffs. As of Friday I no longer work there.

So, I’m looking for a job. I still have my part time job. But I have to start taking care of me again. No excuse now for not going to the gym. Monday I’m starting C25k again. Diet might take a  little longer to get back on track. Time to get ahold of my life again.

Weekly Weigh in 2/25/2011

174.2, for a loss of 2.4. I really didn’t do a whole lot this week, but I did work out a couple times and at least cut out most of the fast food. We did order pizza once, but at least I ate an entire small, not a medium. Starting today I’m tracking food again, since I really haven’t been doing that. I work tonight and tomorrow and need to make sure I’m getting my veggies in. Maybe I can do this after all.

Weekly Weigh In 12/18/11

Argh. I’m still going the wrong direction. Up another .7 this week. That’s 3 weeks and no losses. I hardly worked out this week and I ate too much fast food. I’ve got to get back on track before I get totally off the rails, if I’m not there already.

Weekly Weigh in 2/11/11

I didn’t want to weigh in today, but I did anyway

What I expected, a very slight gain. I was figure either a gain or the same. I’m stuck back at 175 and change. Grr. But I had a terrible week. I stopped tracking sometime around Tuesday and only really worked out on Monday.

Work is making me buggy. My job changed to something easy and its inane and its totally boring. At least I’m getting reading done. I finished “The omnivore’s dilemma”, “The Help” and I’ve started on “Water for Elephants”. This is why I went ahead and bought a nook. And in an extra bit of idiocy they had us draw new schedules out of a hat. We could trade, but, still that’s pretty messed up that we had no options. My new schedule is 7am to 3:30pm, which is actually pretty close to perfect. I’ll have to work out after work instead of before, unless I want to get up at 5am, which, heck, I might, we’ll see. And this way I can keep my second job, even more important since I can no longer get any overtime. I’m applying for other things.

I’m feeling down on myself. Part of that I know is PMS, plus, for some reason my upcoming birthday is freaking me out ever so slightly. No idea why, unless it’s also the PMS, heh. Monday, for the record, and 32. I’m never ashamed of my age, then again, I still get carded. So, I need to get myself together. I have a 5k I’m running on March 6th I’ve already paid for. Me and hubby together. I also got the “30 Day Shred” Jillian Michael’s DVD. I was gonna start that Monday but I might just start it today. I took my measurements.

oh and have I mentioned how awesome my online friends are? I think I have, several times. @projectjaime had a surprise giveaway the other day and I got this in the mail yesterday:

Perfect timing. Just when I need a reminder. They’re available at this Etsy store.

Time to kick this next week in the booty, starting with breakfast today. I’ll also take book suggestions.

Winter Wonderland Warriors Week 6

Life's Journey with a Smile
My Goals:

  1. Finish Couch to 5k
  2. Finish the first round of one hundred pushups
  3. Start and finish two hundred situps
  4. Register for my first 5k
  5. Get below 170, preferably to at least 168, my 10% goal
  6. Finish at least two books
  7. Try a fitness class.
  8. Consistently track my food.
  9. Take at least one hike a month.
  10. Watch one classic movie a week.

1)What have you done this past week to help you achieve your goals?

I struggled this last week, and it showed on the scale. I didn’t run enough, didn’t really do the pushups. I need to push myself this next week. But I have plans this week, oh yes I do. First of all, I’m registered for my first 5k! It’s March 6th, and hubby said he’d do it with me. At first he couldn’t, but then something changed and now he can. Win. Also, I’m pretty sure I’m gonna try a Zumba class this week.

2)New month! Fresh starts! How are you feeling in February?

Motivated, mostly. I’m tired of sabotaging myself. I want to do this thing.

3)Are you competitive? Do you find that seeing how well {or not so well} others do pushes you?

I can be totally competitive. It’s a line between being encouraged and discouraged though. It helps to have competition when usually it’s just me and myself doing this thing.

4)What is your favorite outdoor winter activity?

When I was in high school, I really enjoyed skiing. Now I haven’t been on skis in something like thirteen years and there isn’t really any particular winter sport I participate in.

5)Fun Question of the Week: What would be your ideal way to spend a Saturday night?

I’m lame. I’m happy just hanging out with hubby and playing World of Warcraft.

And my positive picture this week:

Bethany Hamilton. The surfer who lost an arm to a shark, but is still a pro surfer.

Weekly Weigh in 2/4/11 and Monthly Wrap Up January 2011

Back up to 175.6. Yeah, I lost all the weight I’d previously lost this month, and then some. Well, I was expecting a gain this week. Lots of stress and shifting of things at work and I didn’t work out that hard and I ate bad. Can I blame the fact that it was below 20 degrees most of the week? And I live in Central Texas?

Well actually no, I can’t. Part of this healthy living thing is taking responsibility, and I went a bit off the rails this week. It’s great I did 45 minutes with Nike Training Club last night, but that’s not going to make up for a week of slacking. I might venture over to work later after the snow melts to run, since I need to do that too. Which leads to my big news of the week:

I have registered for my first 5k.

Silver Classic, March 6th, 2011. It’s a month off, and that means I can’t miss any more runs if I really want to do this thing. I’m thinking of trying a treadmill 5k for my birthday, we’ll see how that goes.

Now what about January in general? Well overall I’d say not great, but not terrible either. I mostly lost weight, mostly stayed on track. I was, overall, a lot better about tracking points (until this week, anyway). I need to  not sabotage myself, really. If I’d stayed on track this week I might have reached 170 this week. Instead I put it right back on. It’s also a good reminder that a few days of bad eating and slacking on the exercise and that big scary number I started from might be reality all over again.

Nike Training Club

I first became aware of this app from reading 110pounds. My iPhone is one of my favorite fitness tools, so I figured I’d check it out. Friday I ran, then used the app.

First off, I have a 3g, so apps don’t always run right, but this one ran just fine. This app is aimed squarely at women and tied to the Nike Women site, but that doesn’t mean men wouldn’t get good usage out of it. It had no problem playing my workout music that’s already on my phone, lowering the volume  automatically when it talked to me.

But what about the workout? Well first off, there’s several options so you don’t have to do everything  the same all the time, as well as 30 minute or 15 minute courses. Friday I tried a 30 minute circuit. The app gives you both videos and step by step instructions on how to do the various exercise. The videos were clear and easy to follow, though I’m sure they’d be even better on a bigger screen like an iPad. But I had no problem following along. One negative is that there is no modification options, so, for instance I just did knee pushups instead of the regular ones and figured out my own way to modify a couple others.

I would say overall though it was a good workout. I felt a little gelatinous when I was done, but that’s not a bad thing. For Weight Watchers, I counted it as vigorous aerobics, which is 6 points for 30 minutes. Plus I ran, so I earned myself a good amount of activity points for the day. And I was a nice sore the next day.

Winter Wonderland Warriors Week 5

My goals:

  1. Finish Couch to 5k
  2. Finish the first round of one hundred pushups
  3. Start and finish two hundred situps
  4. Register for my first 5k
  5. Get below 170, preferably to at least 168, my 10% goal
  6. Finish at least two books
  7. Try a fitness class.
  8. Consistently track my food.
  9. Take at least one hike a month.
  10. Watch one classic movie a week.

1)What have you done this past week to help you achieve your goals?

Did part of week 6 of C25k, but I’m going to do it over again this week. Doing both pushups and situps in the morning (on the days I don’t run). Lost half a pound, so hey, still going the right way with that. Still working on “The omnivores’ dilemma” and I’m going to get a nook with my tax return money. And tracking my food’s a big reason for my loss this week. I took a hike yesterday and the movie I watched was “Grey Gardens.”

2)January is coming to an end! How do you think you did in the month of January? Review time!

I think I’ve done a good job at getting myself back on track this month and I’m pleased with my progress. I’m at the point now where if I don’t work out I’m restless the rest of the day.

3)Do you feel like your motivation is tapering off now that a month has passed, or are you just as motivated as the beginning of the challenge?

I’m still feeling motivated, but a lot of that is because I’m seeing so many positive changes.

4)Who/what inspires you to keep going?

At the risk of sounding Narcissistic, me. Seeing the changes in myself and my body is plenty of motivation for me. Well and hubby helps and the sense of community from #fitblog and #wwchat.

5)Fun Question of the Week: What is the first thing you think of/do in the morning?

Well first thing I do is grab my phone and turn off the alarm/squint at the time. Then I grab my glasses. After that if it’s tue/thu/sat I go do my pushups and situps. If not, then it’s breakfast time.

Weekly Weigh In 1/28/11

172.6, down .5 pounds. Hey I’ll take it, it’s a loss, not a gain. So I’m going the right direction anyway.

Pretty good week overall. I tracked most days (but not all, I admit) even when I didn’t eat the best stuff. I did go on a hike last Sunday, ran Monday, but didn’t have time and so just did a short, fast run on Wedensday. Going to run again this morning, and I think check out the Nike Training Club App I downloaded. Run Keeper is also free in the month of January, so I got that as well and I’ve been tracking my runs there as well.

I also put a few netflix Yoga/workout vid’s on my instant queue to try. I wish I had more room in my apartment. Whenever we move again, I want an extra bedroom I can use as a workout space. Meantime I’m still working through 100 pushups and I started 200 situps, since that doesn’t need much space. At least the gym at work is free, which is where I’m going after I eat breakfast.
