The importance of sleep

IMG_7589Back when I didn’t care as much about taking care of myself I often went to bed around 2am and got up about 10. It drove hubby crazy, but I rationalized it as at least I was getting 8 hours of sleep. But I’ve since got into the much better habit of going to bed no later then 11:30 and getting up around 6:30. That gives me plenty of time to eat, walk and get stuff done before the day really gets going.

So last night I made the mistake of staying up until 1am, ignoring my bodies demands and not even doing anything important, just messing around on the Internet.

Yeah, mistake. I woke up at 7 anyway, groggy. I rolled over a few times, but couldn’t sleep much past 8. I dragged myself out of bed and eventually got some breakfast in me. I caught up on Amazing Race and finally made myself go walk. Now it’s almost noon, I need a shower and I wanted to go apply for a job today. And I work at 3:45. At least my iPod left me with “Princes of the Universe” to motivate me.

So the lesson here is don’t ignore my bodies signals to go to bed or else I’ll be dragging the rest of the day.

Related: Working Black Friday is gonna suck. We open at 10pm Thursday night, and I bet I’m working that overnight shift. Coffee.
