You Should Watch This

Okay, technically I guess this doesn’t have much to do with writing, but it’s awesome and an attempt to do something different. Plus it’s Joss Whedon. Just click it…

Songs

When it comes to writing, I’m not usually much of a music person. It’s not to say I don’t love music; I do and I listen to a very wide variety. But I normally can’t listen to music with lyrics while I write because that part of my brain needs to be occupied with words on the page, not words in my ears.

There are exceptions of course. I’ve occasionally been hit by a plot bunny while listening to music. And I’m almost always a fan of any song or music that evokes a strong emotion. I somehow decided a while a go that if “The Unthinkable” ever got made into a movie I wanted the song “Solsbury Hill” by Peter Gabriel over the ending credits.

After talking with my friend Autumn, I decided to go looking for songs to describe the characters in “Grace”, the rewrite of which is my main project right now. If you haven’t read it and want to, drop me an email, as I’m still looking for feedback as I work on the rewrite. So, here’s the songs I have so far:

McCarthy: Boulevard of Broken Songs-Yes the mashup, not the original. I just think the mashup better fits the character, though broken dreams would work

Charlie: Cast No Shadow by Oasis-One of my favorite Oasis songs. If you read the story, the song makes perfect sense.

Mark: The Blower’s Daughter by Damien Rice

Grace: She’s being hard to pin down, though right now I’m leaning towards Bring Me to Life by Evanescence. Althought it might also be Nightswimming by REM
